A new place for kids to play baseball will be dedicated at 6 p.m. Monday when the Dallas County Commission opens the renovated Craig Baseball Field.

“This is a fantastic project,” said Commissioner Carnell Towns, who is coordinating the event.

“This is a baseball field like no other one in the county.”

Towns said the grand opening will include speeches by “people who played an important role in building this field.”

In his list of speakers are representatives of the Dallas County Commission, state Rep. Yusuf Salaam, Pioneer Electric and Alabama Power Co.

Towns said free refreshments will be served during the event.

He emphasized is not just about renovating the field.

“We want to focus on the kids,” he said. “We want to make sure they have something to do when they are not in school.”

Also included in the night’s festivities will be a baseball game between community teams involving local children.
