Henry Hicks Sr. has announced his candidacy for Selma City Schools board chairman.
The election is set for Oct. 27. This is the first time citizens have an opportunity to vote for Selma City School Board members.
“The most important attribute a candidate can bring to the school board is a genuine interest in the community, its children and their education,” said Hicks, 54.
Hicks is third-term president of the Parent-Teacher Organization for Edgewood Elementary School; chairman of the Board of Deacons of Little Rock Baptist Church; a member of the Johnathan Daniels Community Development Corp. board of directors; SCOPE board member; Superintendent’s Advisory Board; chairman of the Alabama Democratic Conference, Dallas County Chapter; and Alabama Regional Planning Commission Rural Planning Organization committee member.
Hicks has served as vice president of Leadership Selma-Dallas County Alumni, 2004-06; and department head for the City of Selma.
Hicks said he is a school advocate. He has a son in the fifth grade of the Selma City School System.
Hicks is a product of public schools, understands the educational needs of children and shows the potential for innovative thought.
