The pride one team can create

As the Selma Dixie Boys All-Stars fight through the loser’s bracket to continue its postseason, a city and county can take great pride in the effort the team has exerted to this point.
The fighting spirit and never say die attitude these young men have shown are traits that the entire community — not only the parents and players — should stand and applaud.
They are our representatives, and they have represented Dallas County well.
The team lost game one in the District 4 tournament to fall into the loser’s bracket — more often than not, a death knell in a tournament scenario. How did the team respond? By pounding Millbrook 16-6 and 20-6 on June 29 to win the title and advance to the state tournament in Eufala.
Selma lost game one to Westside on Friday. The response? A 15-0 win over North Sand Mountain and used a four-run seventh inning to take an 8-7 victory and knock Eufala out of the tournament on Sunday.
Whether Selma’s run will continue remains to be seen. But, win or lose, these young men have represented us well.
