Selma’s hitting “is right on schedule,” Dixie Boys manager Troy Anderson said Saturday after his squad collected 16 hits in a 15-0 five-inning victory over North Sand Mountain in the state tournament.

Selma moved into today’s 5:30 p.m. contest against the winner of Saturday’s AUM Montgomery-Eufaula game. The loss eliminated North Sand Mountain in the double-elimination event.

The game lasted only five innings because of the 10-run mercy rule. Selma exploded for seven runs on seven hits in the fourth inning to put the game out of reach.

While the hitting was much improved over Friday’s three-hit loss to Westside of Mobile, the pitching also worked to Selma’s advantage.

“We’ve got all our pitchers available Sunday in a win-or-go home situation,” Anderson said. “That’s why I pulled (starting pitcher) Crawford (Traylor) after we got so far ahead.”

After reaching in the seventh inning on an error, DeMarquis Lumpkin went to second base on a passed ball, third base on a fielder’s choice and scored on an overthrow. Selma then put together doubles by Joey Raybon and Ethan Fancher with singles by Traylor, Austin Anderson, Dylan Lawrence and Eddie Thigpen to account for the seven-run seventh inning.

Traylor got the victory for Selma by throwing three innings with five hits and two strikeouts. Lawrence mopped up the final two innings with four strikeouts and two walks in two innings.

Tyler Vann was North Sand Mountain’s losing pitcher, going 4 2/3 innings with 10 runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and one hit batsman.

Traylor also paced the Selma hitting with three singles, while with two hits apiece were Anderson, Raybon, Lawrence, Wes Tipton and Fancher.

Quintravis Johnson and Devonta Cleveland each singled.
