Majors fall to West Side 6-1

A lack of offense and inconsistent pitching spelled defeat for the Selma Majors All-Stars with a 6-1 loss Friday against West Side of Mobile in the South State tournament.

Selma managed only three hits and gave up 10 walks in the first game of the three-day event.

“We didn’t hit until late,” said Selma head coach Murray Austin. “We couldn’t get the bat on the ball.”

He pulled out the hitting stats for West Side and started counting.

“Ten walks, that’s what did us in,” he said. “We only had three hits, but they had just four.”

Dylan Shelby was tagged with the pitching loss, giving up three earned runs.

Getting a hit apiece for Selma were J.R. Lowe, Heath Harralson and Drew Blackmon.

Selma gets no letup today when the Majors All-Stars take on host team Thomasville at 4 p.m. On Sunday, Selma meets Auburn at 11 a.m., followed by the Dis
