Taylor stepped up when called

The July 4 celebration at Taylorville, a tag-team effort between the City of Selma and Dr. Bruce Taylor, allowed a tradition to continue and a local business to benefit.

But Taylor’s business didn’t benefit without some cost. He spent thousands of dollars on fireworks for Saturday night’s display. The city held its celebration on that site and paid for fans, flags and security.

That’s not too much to ask.

Taylor is first and foremost a businessman. He realized by having the fireworks he could draw many to his establishment.

However, if Taylor had not offered to take over the fireworks show, Selma would have been without the crowning touch to its celebration.

Next year, said Mayor George Evans, the city expects its finances to be in line to return the traditional fireworks show. But, to have a citizen step up and take on the burden certainly helps.

Dr. Taylor, thank you for your support of Selma.
