Dr. Don Blanton of Selma and Mike Greer of Birmingham enter today’s final round of the 12th State Senior Amateur Championship sharing 4-under 138s after 36 holes.
Blanton, who competed in the 57-64 age division, was the first-round leader on his home course at Selma Country Club with a 6-under 65 on Friday. But Saturday’s 73 pushed him to 2-over for the day.
Greer shot a first-round 3-under 68, then added another stroke at 70 Saturday for the 138 total.
Greer finished tied for fifth place in the Selma CC Men’s Invitational and he tied for seventh at last year’s State Senior Amateur.
Other players at even-par or better include Steve Hudson of Birmingham at 2-under 140, and Bob Cox of Guin and Tom Davis of Hoover, each with 1-under 141s.
All three players are in the 50-56 age division.
At even-par in the 57-64 age group is David Fry of Montgomery.
The field was cut to about 60 with ties after Saturday’s second round.
