Pay your respects today

Today is a day for all the fathers to receive the honor and respect they are owed.

For males, pay your respects to the person who taught you how to shave, played more games of catch than you can remember, provided for your family, and kept you in line when necessary.

For the women, pick up the phone and call the man that referred to you as “Daddy’s little girl,”intimidated your boyfriends and spoiled you rotten if possible.

If your father is deceased, pay your respects at his grave. Tell your loved ones stories about him, and take a moment to remember him yourself.

If your father was not a part of your life, there is likely somebody that you view as a father figure. That person deserves as much respect and honor as any father.

We live in a day where oftentimes, we get so wrapped up in our own day-to-day lives that we do not take the time to say thanks to the man who could truthfully state, as Bill Cosby once put it, “I brought you into this world, I’ll take you out.” No, not all fathers turn out to be Cliff Huxtables, but they have a lot to do with who you are, where you come from and what you do.

So today, take a moment and pay your respects to your father or the person you think of as one.

Happy Father’s Day!
