A full slate of activities marks Taylorville Family Entertainment Center’s grand opening ceremony at 11 a.m. today.
The center, which opened its doors on April 23, is ready to put on a show. The Selma High marching band kicks off the festivities at 10 a.m., and a ribbon cutting will be held at 11.
“We want people to see what we’re doing at Taylorville,” said owner Dr. Bruce Taylor. “Play a little laser tag, smile, laugh. Have a good old Selma time.”
A scavenger hunt will follow at 3 p.m., pending the weather. And, of course, Taylorville mascot Ted. E. Bear will be on hand .
“A lot of kids in the area know him,” said Taylor. “It’s all about the bear. They grab that bear around the waist, and when parents try to pull them away, their feet come off the ground and its like they’re flying.”
The center has a variety of activities for all ages, including laser tag, indoor putt-putt golf, more than 100 video and redemption games, a concession stand, four party rooms and a toddler area.
Three outdoor picnic pavilions are under construction, with the first nearing completion.
“We want to try to attract class reunions, family reunions and church picnics,” said Taylor.
