Selma woman demands accountability

This is a belated comment on an article in the STJ several weeks ago regarding the “missing vehicles” at City Hall. The article stood out to me because the mayor and the city attorney stated that hearings on the issue would be useless since the city employees called to testify would “just take the Fifth Amendment.”

My question is, why in the world would the mayor and the city attorney believe the city employees would take the Fifth?

If the credibility of our Police Department employees is that questionable, they should be taken out of the police department and put in a less sensitive area (or fired). Why do we have policemen we cannot trust? This issue should not go away, and the city should not get away with letting the Fifth Amendment stop a valid investigation.

Mayor Evans, you are a good man. I challenge you to step up to the plate and clean up this ball game.
