To build or not to build

Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

Selma City School Board members do not wear crowns, but they do have a very important decision to make in upcoming board meetings — whether to build a new high school or remodel the old one.

This decision divides people as fast as oil and water because it will impact the future of Selma High School students for years to come.

Regardless of the board’s ultimate decision, there will be plenty of people happy and plenty of people mad. That is the nature of the beast.

You can make some people happy all the time and all people happy some of the time, but you can’t make all people happy all the time.

The fact of the matter is there are pros and cons to building and remodeling.

However there is one aspect of the decision we can control – we can support the decision even if the one we think is best is not chosen.

Our students deserve support whether it comes in a shiny new package or a spiffed up classic.

The kids who walk through the high school doors are our future and their foundation is education, not a building.
