Selma advances to state

Ten members of the Selma track team advanced to the state track meet in Gulf Shores with solid performances at the Class 5A Section 2 sectional in Opelika on Saturday.
The meet begins Friday and concludes on Saturday.
Several members left the meet with individual honors. Ashley Grimes placed first in the 100-meter dash (12.61), and long jump, where she set the mark for the best distance in the state this year (17-11). Shaniqua Stallworth finished second in the 100-meter dash (12.67) and first in the 200-meter (25.68). She will represent the Saints in the 400-meter dash at the state meet.
The Saints’ 4×800-meter relay team will feature Shakira Morgan, Mary Taylor, Jarnise Strong and Alexis Kimbrough. Grimes, Jasmine Lewis, Emily Cleveland and Shaniqua Williams will represent Selma in the 4×100.
Wendell Lewis’ high jump of 6-2 secured his spot as Selma’s lone male participant in the state meet.
