Dallas County takes Calera tournament

Dallas County took first place in the Calera Invitational Fastpitch Tournament on Saturday. The Hornets began the day with a 14-0 win over Verbena. Cassandra Daniels had three hits for the game, including a 2-run home run. Whitney Denson, Kimberly Ross, and Keneasha Jefferson all collected multiple hits for the game. Denson (6-0) tossed a three-hitter to earn the win.
Daniels tossed a two-hitter in the second game as the Hornets beat Calera 12-1. Daniels again collected three hits and Rodneshia Vinson added two. Daniels next tossed a no hitter as the Hornets (20-3) beat Maplesville 10-0. Jefferson and Vinson hit home runs in the victory. Ross, Debra Cunningham, and Jasmine Gould also collected multiple hits for the game.
In the championship game, Jefferson led off the second with a double and scored on a Daniels sacrifice fly. Singles from Jasmine Gould and Vinson were followed by a McKinsey Crawford walk. Denson singled to score two for an early 3-0 lead. The Hornets put the game out of reach in the fourth as Vinson, Denson, and Ciera Ingram all singled, followed by a Ross home run to push the lead to the final score of 8-0. Daniels (14-3) was in control on the mound, tossing another one hitter while striking out seven.
For the tournament, the Hornets banged out 45 hits, including four home runs. Dallas County scored 44 runs while Daniels and Denson allowed six combined hits and one run.
