Edwin Earl Chance, of Selma, AL, age 82 passed away Saturday, February 7, 2009.
Mr. Chance is survived by his wife, Doris Chance, sons Martin (Gloria) Chance, Steve (Dale) Chance and Doug (Kathy) Chance; grandchildren, Dawn, Jason, Bucky, Bubba, David, Ann, Amee, Bill and Shelby and eight great grandchildren, brother in-law Donald Fore (Ruth), sister in-laws Francis Gissendanner, Nicki Taylor, Jean Chance and Nell Chance and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chance was preceded in death by his seven brothers; Lee, Lawrence, Lamar, Ray, Elbert, Melvin, and Floyd; two sisters, Alberta Foster Small and Velma Hardy. Mr. Chance was a longtime member of Elkdale Baptist Church, member of the American Legion Post 20, Selma Fraternal Lodge 926 and was a WWII Army Paratrooper Veteran.
Funeral services were Monday, February 9, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Micah Gandy officiating. Interment was in Pineview Memory
Gardens with Selma Funeral Home directing. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jason Chance, Bucky Chance, Bubba Chance, David Chance, Bill Chance and Evin Davison.
Ed will be forever remembered for his love of gardening and fishing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Elkdale Baptist Church, 2221 Elkdale St., Selma, AL 36701 or the American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way #300, Birmingham, AL 35205.
