The company that provides temporary workers to Honda’s Alabama plant says that 706 of the part-time employees are to be laid off, starting March 27.
Elwood Staffing notified the state of the layoffs under the Worker Adjustment Retraining Notification Act about the job losses.
Honda announced last week it would cut temporary manufacturing jobs at its Lincoln plant, but did not say how many of the temporary workers were employed there. The automaker plans to complete the process of cutting temporary jobs by the end of April.
The move does not affect the plant’s 4,500 full-time employees. The company has said production at the plant will decline by 6,000 units amid a severe slump in global sales. Honda’s output in North America will drop by 12 percent to 1.26 million units in the current fiscal year ending March 31.
