Born: July 9, 1939 in Meridian, Mississippi. Ray Burton went home to be with the Lord on January 21, 2009. He is preceded in death by, his wife of 47 years, Clara Nell (Hollingshead) Burton. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Tull A. Burton and Abbie R. Burton; his twin brother, Rayford Burton; and his sisters, Estelle Gates and Evie Hudson.
Mr. Burton is survived by his two sons, Roger (Mary) Burton and Tim (Tammy) Burton of Selma; God Daughter, Darlene Collingsworth; two brothers, Woodrow (Jessie May) Burton and Jimmy (Linda) Burton of Selma; Grandchildren, Tami Lee, Amanda Hanks, Kasey Burton, Ashley (Josh) Lockhart, Jessica Burton, Kenneth Burton, Stephanie Burton and Reagan Burton; Great Grandchildren, Corey Lee, Kaitlyn Lee, Paisley Hanks, and C. Michaela Lockhart. Loved by many nieces and nephews, numerous special friends and camping buddies, he will never be forgotten. Pallbearers will include Derek Lassitter, Josh Lockhart, Kenneth Martin, Logan Lovelady, Devon Collingsworth, and Chris Collingsworth.
Honorary pallbearers will include Eddie Wayne Copper, Benny Hollingshead, and Andy McNeil. Visitation will be held on Thursday night Jan. 22, from 6 to 8 at Lawrence Brown Service Funeral Home. Funeral will be held at Ocmulgee Baptist Church on Friday Jan. 23 at 11:00. Graveside services will follow at Ocmulgee cemetery. Special thanks are extended to Southern Care Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Ocmulgee Baptist Church.
