Meadowview jumped on Lowndes early, held off a Rebel surge, then rolled in a 59-45 win in a foul-driven game on Saturday.
We didn’t play one of our better games,” said Meadowview coach Robby Redd. “I think it’s the worst game we’ve played this season.”
A Cooper Hain layup led to a run that gave Meadowview an 8-0 lead only three minutes into the opening period. That was followed by a 7-0 Trojan run capped by a Justine Freine 3-pointer to surge to an 18-6 lead.
But Lowndes quickly responded with a 10-0 run highlighted by 3-pointers from Tyler Bozeman and Kristian Kilpatrick. That cut the deficit to 18-16. Bozeman took it from there with a 3-point play and two free throws to push the Rebels out to their first lead at 21-19.
“Lowndes has a very scrappy team,” said Redd. “I expected the game to be much closer than it was.”
But the Trojans controlled the game the rest of the way. J.R. Lowe scored nine points in an 11-0 Meadowview run to put the Trojans on top 30-21. Then, leading 36-23 in the third period, Lowe sparked a 14-4 run capped by a Freine 3-pointer to take a comfortable 19-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Lowe led the Trojans with 19 points. Hain scored 14 and Freine added 13.
Bozeman paced the Rebels with 12 points and Kilpatrick chipped in nine.
