U.S. Justice Department approves legislation

The U.S. Department of Justice has approved legislation passed last year by the Alabama Legislature to allow voters to determine if they want elected school board members.

It’s uncertain when that election might occur. City Attorney Jimmy Nunn said Justice did not approve the election per se.

“The city council has to submit a date, then the Justice Department will consider it,” he said.
