Authorities believe the two teenagers confronted one another at a dance at the Brown YMCA on Lauderdale. The altercation continued into the neighborhood, said Selma Police Chief William T. Riley III.

Authorities said Garner ran about a block after he was shot and collapsed behind a house.

Officers found four spent .380-caliber cartridges, a loaded magazine of .380-caliber bullets and two live rounds of .380-caliber bullets at the scene.

The victim’s body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.
