James Boozer

James Charles Boozer, age 78, of Marion, died Dec. 26, 2008, at home. Services were 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008 at Marion United Methodist Church with The Reverend Jim Walters and Dr. Larry Teasley officiating. Burial was in Rosemont Cemetery in Uniontown with Kirk Funeral Homes Marion Chapel directing. The family received friends one hour prior to services in the Church Chapel. He was born Oct. 14, 1930 in Dayton to the late Benjamin Eli and Mettie Bell Moseley Boozer. In 1952, he married the love of his life, Virginia Ann Barton. They moved to Auburn so he could attend Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now known as Auburn University, where he graduated in 1956. After graduation, they moved to Mobile so he could take a job with Merchant’s National Bank. In 1960, the Boozers moved to Marion for James to accept a position at Marion Bank and Trust, He was promoted to Bank President by 1977 and eventually rose to the position of Chairman of the Board. Until the time of his death, he played an active role in the daily operations of Marion Bank and Trust.
Survivors include his daughter, Betsy Boozer Sanford (Sam “Beau”) of Houston, Texas; his son, Benjamin Clyde Boozer (Sandra Burdell Boozer) of Marion; his sister, Eloise Boozer Stockman of Tuscaloosa; one grandson Samuel “Conner” Sanford; and a special be-loved friend, Eloise Holifield of Marion.
Pallbearers were Stewart Abrams, Grady Abrams, Donnie Barton, Barton Elliot, Ken Barton, Dudley Barton, Frank Barton, and Brandon Vaughan.
Honoray pallbearers were employees of the Marion and Selma Branch of Marion Bank and Trust Company and the Board of Directors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Boozer’s memory to the Marion United Methodist Church, 110 Washington Street, Marion, AL 36756.
