Interviews for Selma city clerk and treasurer begin today at 5:30 p.m.
At last count, the city had received 38 applications. The applications broke down like this: 16 for city clerk only; seven for city clerk and treasurer and three for city treasurer only.
Today, the Selma City Council Government Administrative Committee is expected to interview those for city treasurer only and the seven who have applied for city clerk and treasurer.
Dr. Monica Newton, chairwoman of the committee, said the committee has a list of standard questions. She expects the interviews to last 20-25 minutes. The committee will refer the top five interviewees to the full council.
City Councilman Sam Randolph opposed the the process, saying the top two candidates are already on board. He referred to City Clerk Lois Williams and City Treasurer Cynthia Mitchell.
“I think it’s a waste of time,” he said.
