GREENSBORO — The R.C. Hatch girls took a 48-43 loss from Sunshine on Saturday night.
On the bright side, the game was closer than the 64-45 defeat the Tigers handed the Bobcats more than two weeks ago.
“I think it’s one of the best defensive games we’ve played all year,” said R.C. Hatch coach John Abraham.
However, Sunshine’s Shafontaye Myers and missed free throws doomed the Bobcats. Myers finished with 19 points, and R.C. Hatch shot 15 percent from the line.
The Bobcats trailed the entire first half and went into the locker room down 24-17. But they opened the second half with an 11-0 run. Araila Boddie hit a 3-point shot to give Hatch a 29-28 lead at the 1:30 mark of the third quarter.
Myers hit two free throws to put the Tigers back in front, but Boddie connected on a 3-pointer at the other end to put R.C. Hatch ahead 32-30.
A LaGesha Rainer 3-point play sparked a 9-0 Sunshine run, putting the Tigers back in front 39-32.
Myers led all scorers with 19 points. Rainer added 12, and Carter contributed 11.
Boddie led the Bobcats with 12 points, and Ashley Wilkins added 10.
