Southside crushes Autaugaville

Desmond Moore scored 37 points to lead Southside (3-4) to a 75-40 win over Autaugaville on Tuesday.

“We came out and played hard from end to end,” said Southside coach Cecil Brown. “But we’ve got some improving to do.”

The Panthers jumped on the Autaugaville early and led 44-27 at the half.

DeMarcus Moore added 14 points and five assists. Toranso Smith finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.

Southside hits the road to take on Keith on Friday in Orrville.

Keith 56, Calhoun 38

Keith (3-4) got back on track with a 56-38 win over Calhoun on Tuesday.

“It’s probably the first time we put together 3 1/2 great quarters of basketball,” said Keith coach Tommy Tisdale. “We played extremely well as a team.”

The Bears took a 17-point lead into the locker room and led 44-29 after three quarters.

Gerald Matthews led the Bears with 14 points. Rodney Ellis added 13 and Ronnie Rosemond finished with 10.

The Bears play host to Southside on Friday.

Central Christian 92, Open Door 27 (Girls)

CCA’s defense didn’t allow Open Door to get out of single digits in the first half.

The dominating effort gave the Lady Warriors a 92-27 victory.

Tiffany Brown had a triple double — 40 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.

Kara Rawls scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Chelsea Perry scored 10 with six assists.

CCA only allowed two points in the second quarter and led 52-7 at halftime.

Autauga Academy 53, Meadowview 52

Meadowview was without team leader J.R. Lowe — who was playing in the AISA all-star football game — in a 53-52 overtime loss to Autauga Academy on Tuesday night.

Hayden Dunn led Autauga with 17 points in the win.

For Meadowview, Adam Brown led the way with 18 points and three steals. Daniel Blackmon added 11 points, five rebounds and four steals. Justin Freine finished with 10 points, 10 rebounds and five steals.

Autauga Academy 44, Meadowview 24

Autauga did most of its damage behind three players in a 44-24 home win over Meadowview on Tuesday.

Wendy Pittman led Autauga with 19 points, Shannon Mobley got 11 and Ashley Odell finished with 10.

Kayla Kaldor led the Trojans with 11 points.

Monday night

Morgan 84, Bessemer 61

Morgan knocked off Bessemer to earn its first region win on Monday night.

Coal Brown led the Senators with 20 points and nine rebounds. Daniel Lee added 17, Heath Harrelson had 11 points and Jacob King had 10.

Angelo Thompson led Bessmer with 29 points.
