Veterans Day service begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday

On the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour most communities, like Selma and Dallas County, will honor their veterans.

Bill Campbell, commander of American Legion Post 20, has invited everyone to Memorial Stadium on Dallas Avenue, beginning at 10 a.m. to honor veterans of all wars. Former Probate Judge Johnny Jones will be the master of ceremonies. Byrd Looper is the guest speaker.

“Both American Legions will be there,” Campbell said of the annual Veterans Day celebration. “We have a lot of dignitaries scheduled to be there.”

Here’s the schedule of events:

10 a.m. — Patriotic music

10:30 a.m. — Acknowledgements

10:35 a.m. — Selma High School drills

10:45 a.m. — Morgan Academy Bank

11 a.m. — Honor guard posts the colors; salute; Southside High School Choir sings the national anthem; opening prayer

11:15 a.m. — Recognition of dignitaries

11:25 a.m. — Guest speaker, Byrd Looper

11:45 a.m. — Placement of wreaths by the American Legion Post 20, Emblem Club, Meadowview Christian School, John T. Morgan Academy, VFW Post 2016

Noon — Flag folding ceremony by Southside ROTC team

12:15 — Taps; comments by past-Post 20 Commander Jesse Sanchez; retiring of the colors; benediction; drawing for the rifle
