Lines long in Alabama; results slow coming into Dallas County

Alabama polls have closed but long lines remain in some areas as election day ended much the way it began.

Voters who waited until the end of the work day contributed to more long lines as the 7 p.m. closing time arrived Tuesday.

Secretary of State Beth Chapman said Alabama appears headed for a record turnout. Long lines formed before polls opened at 7 a.m. but they had mostly dwindled by midmorning.

Things slowed down again after a lunchtime rush but Chapman said lines began growing once more after 5 p.m. with the after-work rush.

Chapman traveled to six counties throughout the state and said election officials everywhere were reporting record turnout.
