Athens police said vigilant Wal-Mart employees helped catch a thief after they recognized him as the same person who had been caught on video stealing computers over the last two months.
Police Capt. Marty Bruce said 39-year-old William T. Lampkin of Hartselle had 161 fishing lures in his shirt when he was arrested by police Thursday night. He was charged with two counts of second-degree theft after authorities found $512 worth of lures in his shirt.
Bruce said store employees recognized Lampkin as the person caught on video stealing four computers valued at $2,194 and called police.
Officers waited for him to leave the store, found the lures in his shirt and arrested him. Bruce said Lampkin admitted to stealing the computers when he was arrested.
