Jemison defeats Dallas County

J Jemison celebrated homecoming Friday night with a 53-14 win over Dallas County.

Merrell Morrow scored four touchdowns for the Panthers (5-1), including a 47-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Quarterback Eric Argo passed for a touchdown and had 141 yards passing.

The swarming Panther defense held the Hornets (2-4), scoring a touchdown on an interception and forcing quarterback Justin McAfee to fall on a fumble in the end zone that produced a safety for Jemison.

The Panthers totaled 459 yards in offense and held Dallas County to 70 yards rushing and 201 passing. Jemison booked 15 first downs to DCHS’s 10. The Panthers were penalized 55 yards, and the Hornets were flagged for 40 yards.

Jemison lost one fumble but its defense claimed two Hornets fumbles and intercepted two passes.

Morrow opened scoring on a 4-yard run at the 8:49 mark in the first quarter. After the Panthers added the safety, Argo scored the second Panther touchdown of the quarter on a 3-yard run with 44 seconds left.

Morrow scored twice in the second quarter on runs of 47 yards and five yards, and Argo passed for a touchdown. McAfee passed to Brandon Harvell in the second quarter to trail the Panthers 34-6 at the half.

Morrow scored again in the third quarter on a 5-yard run midway through the period, and Jesse Taylor intercepted a McAfee pass and ran 60 yards to score, giving the Panthers a 47-six lead at the three-quarter mark.

Isa Bentley scored the Panthers’ final touchdown on a 5-yard run with 5:33 to play.

With 22 seconds to play, Brandon Jackson scored for Dallas County on a 40-yard run. Talmadge Ross ran in the 2-point conversion to end scoring at 53-14.
