MAPLESVILLE – The Maplesville Red Devils harnessed their fourth consecutive win Friday night in a 50-0 shutout of the Autaugaville Eagles.
The undefeated Devils (4-0) kept the Eagles winless (0-5) in a homecoming victory that represented the best of Maplesville football, coach Brent Hubbert said.
“Our kids probably played the best first half of football we’ve played in a couple of years,” he said. “We executed well on both sides of the ball. I think that shows maturity, and it’s carrying over each week.”
Hunter McCay drew first blood for the Devils with a 7-yard touchdown early in the first quarter. Chris Bailey followed up quickly with a 28-yard score.
Autaugaville was forced to punt after a fumble, clearing the way for McCay to strike again.
The score was 21-0 after the first quarter.
Maplesville continued its assault as Matt Hamner connected with Brian Bailey for a 4-yard touchdown pass. Then, McCay found the end zone again to make the score 33-0 at halftime.
Hamner ran 21 yards for some pay dirt in the third, and Patrick Alteena stacked on three more points with a 46-yard field goal.
In the fourth, Kuwan Barnes got a piece of the action with a 7-yard touchdown run.
McCay led Maplesville with 14 carries for 106 yards, and Bailey had six carries for 42 yards. Bailey was also the top receiver with 3 catches for 51 yards.
Hamner threw 9-of-14 for 120 yards.
