Mobile County is reporting its first human case of West Nile virus for 2008. Health officials say the victim is a woman who lives in the 36606 zip code.
Officials say they are awaiting lab results to determine if two other Mobile area residents, a male and female, have also contracted the virus.
Last month, an elderly Jefferson County man was diagnosed with the ailment.
The virus is usually transmitted by a mosquito bite. Symptoms include an abrupt onset of headaches, fever, nausea, a stiff neck, achiness and fatigue.
Health experts say residents can protect themselves by wearing repellant containing the chemical D-E-E-T, wear protective clothing and remove standing water from around their homes
