We would encourage each voter in the city to take the responsibility and exercise the privilege that comes with citizenship by casting a ballot on Tuesday. The polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m.

Our community, indeed no community, can grow and develop without the cooperation and the willingness of its citizens to take a part in public life. By voting, individuals exercise a key component of service to community.

We believe every vote is sacred. We also believe every person has the right to vote as they deem proper. It is their voice that should be heard.

However we also believe this newspaper has a leadership responsibility to recommend candidates to the public. But they remain just that — recommendations.

President Geraldine Allen

Ward 1 Cecil Williamson

Ward 2 Johnny Moss III

Ward 3 Dr. Monica Newton

Ward 4 Carolyn Bates

Ward 5 Samuel Randolph

Ward 6 Benny Tucker

Ward 7 Lola Sewell

Ward 8 Corey Bowie
