Gas is expensive everywhere, but local residents search to find the cheapest available.

On Saturday afternoon, Wal-mart and the United Food & Fuel Citgo stations had the cheapest gas, with regular unleaded at $3.89.

The prices in Selma vary from $3.89 to $4.09, and the reasons from the different stations are all similar.

Although some store clerks are unaware of how their gas is priced, most of the stations in Selma are given the price from their corporate offices. However, independent stations operate differently.

Patrick Hisel, who runs Raceway, also gets his prices from the corporate office and has one of the lower prices at $3.91.

Still, people in Selma continue to buy gas at places with high prices, even at $4.09.

Samuel Collins, another resident who bought the high-dollar gas, said he always buys from an Exxon or Shell station.
