The contest has been ongoing since June 1. Several people have followed clues found at the stores of participating merchants and in the Times-Journal.

Cothran said she passed several people on her way to the site. Shovels dug many holes, but tree roots were the only thing they hit.

This was Cothran&8217;s first time participating in the The Hunt. She didn&8217;t expect to find the treasure. The search has been fun a fun experience for her and she plans to participate again.

The 21-year-old plans to split the money with her mother and friend. Some of the booty will end up in Tallahassee, Fla., as Cothan is headed to the beach.
