Team Camp II of Mark Gottfried’s 2008 Basketball Camps: Two days. Seven games. Selma High Saints 6-1. Exhausted. Pleased.
Three back-to-back Sunday wins clinched the title.
A foot injury for Wendell Lewis placed the Saints at a disadvantage before the tournament began Friday. Lewis underwent an MRI on Friday for the injury suffered the previous weekend at NBA camp in Virginia.
Enroute to the championship, the Saints marched through Jess Lanier 62-48 and Loganville, Ga., 48-38 to advance to the championship game. A 52-44 win over Jim Hill (Jackson, Miss.) made it official.
The championship made the experience even sweeter, and spoke volumes of the team’s capabilities.
Jamie King, another Selma player, felt the same way.
