Elks Lodge holds on to beat Cougar

Elks Lodge #167 came from behind and held on to beat Cougar Chevron 16-9 Thursday in 9-11 fastpitch softball action at the Sportsplex.

In the top of the first inning, Cougar Chevron sent nine batters to the plate. Morgan Barrett singled, and then Dytaria Johnson, Ashley Warren and Alexis Smith walked. All four scored to give Cougar Chevron a 4-0 lead.

Elks Lodge scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Jamie Horton led off with a walk and scored on Mary Logan Kelley’s RBI triple. A Cougar Chevron error allowed Kelley to score on the play.

Cougar Chevron increased its lead in the second inning, scoring three runs. Barrett, Johnson and Warren all walked and scored to give Elks Lodge a 7-2 lead. Shelby Boswell and Shay Spradley had RBI singles in the inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, Elks Lodge sent nine of its own to the plate. Eight were able to cross the plate, and Elks Lodge took the 10-7 lead. Anna Gayle Hubbard, Donna Neeley, Cameryn Bagget, Aanessa Watson, Horton, Kelley, Lauren Criswell and Maggie Jackson all scored. Horton, Kelley and Criswell singled, and Jackson had an inside-the-park grand slam in the inning.

Elks Lodge continued to take control of the game in the third inning. Shirlenta Ramsey, Logan Damoth, Hubbard, Neeley, Bagget and Watson all scored to make the score 16-7.

In the top of the fourth inning, Cougar Chevron was only able to score two runs. Smith walked and scored on Spradley’s RBI double. Spradley also scored on the play after an Elks Lodge error.

Horton picked up the win on the mound, and Ashton Primm took the loss for Cougar Chevron.
