Sewer line project near end of planning stage

Plans are in the works to stop sewage backups in the Craig Field Area.

$400,000 Community Development and Block Grant and a $51,500 match by the Dallas County Water and Sewer Authority will soon alleviate that problem. The project is estimated to take six months to complete.

Goodwyn Mills and Cawood Inc. of Montgomery is the Engineering firm for the project.

David Hamm, Dallas County Water and Sewer Authority general manager, said the firm is 75 percent done with the planning stage.

After planning is complete, the project will be bid out.

The county applied for the grant and it was awarded to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs in October 2007.

The failing sewer lines are concrete and were installed in the 1940s.
