Tremayne “Toby” Gorden has announced his candidacy for Selma City Council President.
Gorden, 35, a Selma native, is running for public office for the second time. The first time was an unsuccessful bid in 2002 for state representative, District 67, which is now held by Rep. Yusuf Salaam.
Gorden has been a resident of Ward 1 for almost seven years and is an entrepreneur who operates stores in Montgomery, Demopolis and Brent.
“I feel very strongly about the fact that I’m not part of any organization that I hold an allegiance to,” Gorden said. “Therefore, I bring a bi-partisan view. I’ll be able to look at things objectively.”
Gorden currently operates CT Wireless and Faith Christian Gallery.
Parts of Gorden’s plan include using technology and communications to improve crime prevention, revitalizing the city’s tourism industry and implementing transparency in government.
He has been married 10 years and has four children. He is a graduate of Southside High and Wallace Community College and joined the US Marine Corps in 1992.
