The game wasn’t an inning old, and Cahaba Hospice had already chased a pitcher and brought its entire lineup to the plate.

Cahaba Hospice took advantage of six first-inning walks and did the majority of its scoring in the process. The team took a 9-4 win over Swift Drug in girls’ 12-14 fastpitch softball action Tuesday night at the Dallas County Sportsplex.

Kat Friday struck out two batters in the first inning, but she had trouble commanding the ball most of the time. She left the game with the bases loaded and two outs.

Celeigh Denny, Grace Lane, Breanna Watts and Ashley Allen all had RBI hits to help stake Cahaba Hospice to an 8-0 lead. Their only other run came in the fourth when Olivia Watts scored on an Allen ground out.

Latrice Young scored Victoria Nalley on a ground out to second base for Swift’s first run of the game in the second inning. Jade Johnson had an RBI double in the third, and Robin Small and Friday also scored runs in that inning.

Johnson came on in relief of Friday and limited Cahaba to one hit and also struck out five batters.

Gabrial Dunning got the win after pitching three innings and striking out three.
