Staff Report
Tanya Thomas has announced her candidacy for county tax collector.
Thomas is presently employed as an administrative assistant with Rural Health Medical Program Inc.
Thomas is a 1993 graduate of Selma High and graduated from Knoxville College in 1997 with a bachelor&8217;s degree in political science and said she has always been interested in politics. In 2002, she took continuing education courses in real estate, and at that time became specifically interested in running for office. She felt, however, that she needed to complete her Master&8217;s degree.
Her goal is to ensure all property is taxed uniformly, to be accessible and responsive to issues and concerns of citizens and to provide general information on property tax laws to the citizens of Dallas County.
Thomas plans to continue the excellent relationship between the tax assessor&8217;s office and tax collector&8217;s office in order to better serve all citizens.
Thomas attends Ellwood Community Church and serves as assistant director of music ministry and youth choir director. She has one son, Jermeir. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.
