The Black Belt area added another of its athletes to the list of players who will participate in the ASHAA’s All-Star Sports Week in July.
Dallas County High junior pitcher Dylan Shelby will be a member of the South team when it plays a doubleheader against the North on July 14 in Huntsville.
Shelby has compiled a 9-3 record in the last two years, even though he struggled and lost some velocity early this season.
“I feel good; my arm feels great,” Shelby said. “I’m going to start working on my mechanics now that the season is over. I know a little bit about some of those guys (on the North team), but this will be my first time playing them on an all-star team.”
Shelby, who had received interest from major league scouts, saw his velocity drop considerably from the low 90s. He got back on track late in the season, enough to impress his coach and members of the selection committee.
“It’s been a good long while since anybody from around here played in that game,” Hornets coach Ty Riggins said.
All players in the exhibition are upcoming seniors. The games are scheduled for 4 p.m. at Joe Davis Stadium.
