Hughes announces candidacy for county tax assessor

Frances Simmons Hughes has announced her candidacy for tax assessor of Dallas County.
Hughes, 57, has worked in the tax assessor&8217;s office for 37 years, the last 10 as the tax assessor.
She said she is most proud of the continuous excellent audits of her office by the state department of public examiners.
Hughes works very closely with the county tax collector&8217;s office and said the relationship between the two is &8220;excellent.&8221;
Hughes holds the Alabama Certified Tax Administrator designation, earned by many hours of continuing education and by passing the exam for certification from the state Department of Revenue and Auburn&8217;s center for governmental services.
Hughes is a 1968 graduate of A.G. Parrish (Selma) High School, William Rufus King State Technical School, where she studied accounting, and holds an associate degree in business from Wallace Community College-Selma.
She attends Elkdale Baptist Church and has one daughter, Cristina Hughes Rice, and one grandson, Luke Rice.
