Hosea James has announced his candidacy for the Dallas County Commission District 1 seat.

James is a life-long resident of the Pleasant Hill community and is running for office for the first time. He said his focus would be primarily on helping the youth of the area.

James, 51, said he built the baseball field near Craig Elementary nearly four years ago to give people in the community something to do.

He is a graduate of Southside High School and owns James Construction and Mobile Home repair. James is also an assistant basketball coach at Southside.

He is unmarried.
