MONTGOMERY – The Selma softball team got its first win of the season Saturday during the Brewbaker Tech tournament.
Khadijah Fails was the winning pitcher in a 12-1 win over the Jeff Davis junior varsity team, the Saints’ first game of the day. Chelsea Sturdivant, Mercedes King and Derrica James all had two hits in the game.
In the second game, Selma got off to a hot start but couldn’t score in the late innings of a 4-3 loss to Brew Tech. King and Andreka Trone both doubled and scored to spark a three-run first inning for Selma.
The Rams scored twice in the second, twice more in the fifth, and those were all the runs they needed.
Selma finished the day with a 15-4 loss to Carver-Montgomery.
“It got real cold and real muddy, and the girls were tired by the third game,” coach Javaris Jackson said. “I think the girls did real good to play in conditions like that. Everyone put the bat on the ball, and we’re looking at some positive things.”
