A Selma man accused of discharging a .44-caliber handgun Saturday outside his apartment in George Washington Carver Homes is in jail under $500,000 bond.
The bond for Orlando Walker, 36, was set Tuesday by Dallas County District Judge Robert Armstrong.
Walker has a previous conviction for assault first degree and two convictions on the charge of certain person forbidden to carry a firearm, according to court officials.
On Saturday evening, a Selma police officer saw a man firing a pistol and flee inside an apartment at the housing project.
Officers checked the weapon confiscated later from Walker and said it was not stolen.
Detectives said it will be several weeks before they know the history of the handgun.
“That&8217;s a cannon to be letting off in GWC Homes,&8221; said John Oxford, &8220;not that it&8217;s okay to be firing any weapon inside the city limits.&8221;
Armstrong appointed attorney Tommy Treese to defend Walker. A preliminary hearing has been set for March 11 in district court.
