Staff and Wire Report

Members of the Alabama Senate spent a good deal of Thursday&8217;s two-hour session drawing partisan lines over a bill both parties seem to agree on.

Democrats in the Senate want the Republican governor to revoke his order for yearly property tax appraisals and switch to every four years. Gov. Bob Riley wants the Legislature to pass a law for property tax appraisals every four years.

Democrats say Riley created the problem, and he ought to fix it.

Riley ordered the switch to yearly appraisals after attorneys in the Department of Revenue told him that appraisals every four years is against the law.

Republicans stand behind the governor, while Democrats say they&8217;ll introduce a resolution every day until Riley signs it.
