Success has come in abundance for the Selma girls’ basketball team this season.
One more accolade will be added on when Mayor James Perkins Jr. declares Feb. 7 “Lady Saints Day.”
The team is on a 25-game winning streak and until recently had just one loss to their record. Because of games Blount had to forfeit for using an ineligible player, Selma’s record now officially stands at 27-0.
Selma will play host to the 6A Area 5 tournament beginning tonight and will face Stanhope Elmore at 7:30.
“This is just our way to express to our players and staff that we sincerely appreciate their efforts, and I hope it will inspire other students to participate,” interim superintendent Dr. Verdell Lett Dawson said in a statement. “Coach Harris and his staff have done a fine job, and we wish them much success in the playoffs.”
The senior basketball players have lost just two games in their careers at Selma.
Perkins will sign a proclamation today to honor the team on its season.
