In addition to the citizens of Selma, three men will be awaiting word regarding the next chief of police.
Lt. Curtis Brame, Capt. William T. Riley III and Capt. Terry B. Essex were all described by Mayor James Perkins Jr. as &8220;great candidates&8221; to lead the city&8217;s police force.
Perkins said he is close to making a statement and should do so no later than Wednesday next week.
The interviews he held with the candidates this past Wednesday bolstered the mayor&8217;s confidence in the potential choices.
Brame currently works with the North Chicago Police Department, Riley with the Newport News (Va.) Police Department and Essex with the Montgomery Police Department.
The newest police chief will succeed Jimmy Martin, who resigned in June.
