Another hat has been tossed in the local political ring.

Joseph L. Bumbrey Sr. has recently announced that he plans to run for president of the Selma City Council.

The retired business man says the he believes the council needs to form closer relationships within itself, the county and the community.

Bumbrey has lived in Selma for two years, but has been back an forth to the area for more than 30 years, as his wife, Frances Williams Bumbrey is the daughter of the late dentist Dr. J. H. Williams.

Bumbrey a retired business owner from Spotsylvania County, Va., and has worked in human resources for more than 20 years,

is a former diversity trainer, and has recently had a diversity session with the Selma City Council.

He is a former member of A.P. Advisory Committee for Spotsylvania County Schools and a former member of Spotsylvania County Schools Six-Year Planning Committee.

He says he has attended almost every council meeting and most of the school board meetings and feels he knows what the immediate needs of the area are.

Bumbrey has a bachelors in business administration from Winston-Salem State University, a retired Vietnam-era veteran, a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where he is a Sunday School teacher, and member of the men&8217;s male chorus.
