After deliberating five hours Thursday a jury found Preston Nelson, 20, guilty of the murder of Andre Norwood, who died after being shot in the back Jan. 2, 2006.
According to witness statements, Norwood, who was 19 years old at the time of his death, was walking with a group of friends after visiting a grocery story on Lawrence Street when Nelson exited a vehicle and began firing at the group.
Norwood was transported to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he later died from the gunshot at 2:47 a.m.
Although there were other passengers in the vehicle Nelson was traveling in, witnesses later identified Nelson as the shooter.
Circuit Court Judge Tommy Jones ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing at a later date. The maximum sentence Nelson could receive in the murder is life in prison.
