Robbery suspect to face judge

A suspect in last Friday&8217;s attempted robbery of Wachovia Bank in Selma is expected to go before a judge today.

Jermiah Booker, 24, of Safford has been in jail on $20,000 bond since customers and employees cornered him during the alleged robbery attempat.

Booker is expected to go before Judge Bob Armstrong in Dallas County District Court for a preliminary hearing.

Witnesses said a man believed to be the suspect grabbed a customer and stuck a pen to his nec.

The customer grabbed the pen and began to struggle with the man before other customers and employees cornered him in the bank vault area until police arrived.

Booker was taken into custody without incident.

There no injuries in the incident and no money was taken.

Authorities said they had wondered about Booker&8217;s mental stability and said he likely will receive some kind of pychiatric evaluation ordered by the judge.
