Big 3 have big night for Dallas County girls

Jessica Spears, Shaneeka Davis and Debrann Gardener combined for 42 points to lead Dallas County to a 60-34 win.

The Hornets (3-2) blew open a close game at halftime by outscoring the Panthers 22-8 in the third quarter to take a 47-27 lead.

Spears led all scorers with 17 points, Davis had 13 and Gardener had 12.

The Panthers (0-6) got 11 points from Jameria Moore to lead the team.

It foretold to be a long night for the Panthers when the Hornets went on a 7-0 run to begin the first quarter and a 5-0 run to end it, taking a 16-8 lead after one.

Up 25-19 going into the third, DCHS went on a 10-4 run over the first 2:15 of the quarter. A 9-0 stretch ended the period and put the team ahead by 20.

Layups from Janay Thomas and Tamara Smith were the only field goals the Panthers scored in the third.
